The project I am presenting here is the first drawing project as such that I have ever conceived of, and first drawing project at all after a pause of many years. It is called „Mohna.“ This word is coined from the German words meaning „moon“ (Mond) and „poppy“ (Mohn). It came into being while I was brooding over – yes you can laugh – my birthmarks. So I wrote a short poem in which, trying to work on my positive self image, I compared them to constellations and stars falling, and somehow the poppy and its seeds came to mind and so „Mohnd“  was born, and with it, the female character of that name. It is the first project that I have ever created as a series. It was very hard for me to repeat the same lady in all drawings, but I did my best, and even though not identical in each drawing, that is her, Mohna. Perhaps she has changing faces, like the Moon. 

For a while I thought critically about the artistic value of the Mohna project, and then decided not to think about it, because it was such a pleasure to work on it, that I decided I am just going to do it. 

So that is her story.

 

 

Das Projekt das ich hier zeige, ist das erste Zeichenprojekt, das ich als „Projekt“ konzipiert habe.  Und es handelt sich um Zeichnungen nach einer sehr langen Pause. Der Titel ist „Mohna“. Das Wort ist ein Wortprägung aus Mohn und Mond. Es entstand während ich über – ja ihr dürft lachen – meine Muttermale und Leberflecken grübelte.  So schrieb ich ein Gedicht, in welchem ich versuchte an dem eigenen Selbstbild positiv zu arbeiten indem ich diese Punkte mit Sternschnuppen und Konstellationen verglich.  Irgendwie kamen der Mohn und die Mohnsamen auch dazu als Vergleich und das war die Geburt von „Mohnd“ und von der weiblichen Figur mit diesem Namen. Und gleich war klar, dass das eine Serie von Zeichnungen sein muss. Die Herausforderung lag darin, die gleiche Dame in all den Zeichnungen zu wiederholen. Ihr werdet merken, das ist mir nicht ganz gelungen, aber es ist immer die eine, Mohna, mit ihren vielen wechselnden Gesichtern, wie der Mond. 

Lange habe ich überlegt, welches künstlerisches Wert bringt Mohna und ob, aber es war so erfüllend und es hat so viel Spaß gemacht sie zu schöpfen, das mir das nicht mehr wichtig war.
